About Utah Mojo Volleyball Club
After 30+ years of coaching club and high school volleyball in Northern Idaho and Utah County and three years coaching for other clubs here in Southern Utah, Danette and Tulao Moea’i are proud to bring back Utah Mojo Volleyball Club — this time with a renewed mission and a clear purpose: to elevate the level of volleyball in Southern Utah and Tooele County to build a thriving, competitive community rooted in strong values and proven experience.
Mojo Volleyball isn’t just a new name on the scene — it’s a revival of a legacy. Originally launched in Northern Utah as a boys volleyball club over a decade ago, Utah Mojo was created to give young athletes access to elite coaching, advanced training, and a positive team environment. Now, that legacy returns to the court in Southern Utah — stronger than ever, and open to both boys and girls.
With deep coaching roots, national and collegiate playing backgrounds, and decades of experience mentoring athletes of all ages, the Moea’i family is returning to the court with fresh energy — focused on developing elite players, fostering resilience, and creating a team culture where effort, integrity, and grit are at the core.
Whether athletes are new to the sport or working toward college recruitment, Utah Mojo is here to train the next generation of players to compete with confidence — and lead with character.
A Volleyball Family.
Danette and Tulao have been sharing the court — and their lives — for over 30 years, ever since they met playing college volleyball. Danette at University of Utah and Tulao at Brigham Young University. Both were playing college volleyball and meet on a coed volleyball court and the rest is history. Together, they have raised a blended family of seven children, two of whom they share together — Makenzie and Coleman, both of whom have continued the family’s volleyball legacy.
Makenzie played two seasons at UNLV before transferring to finish her collegiate career at the University of Utah. She went on to play professionally in Sweden, where she led the country in kills, aces, and blocks. Coleman began his collegiate career at Benedictine University in Mesa, Arizona, and had the opportunity to train and compete internationally in France. He most recently coached for Salty Boys Volleyball435 Elite, Dixie High School Boys Volleyball and continues to stay actively involved in the sport.
Danette is currently the head coach at Dixie High Boys Volleyball here in St. George, Utah. She also coached high school volleyball in Cottonwood, Idaho at Prairie High School and American Fork High School in American Fork, Utah.
Makenzie is currently the head coach of Tooele High Girls Volleyball in Tooele, Utah.
Their deep family connection to the sport fuels their dedication to helping other families experience the same joy, growth, and opportunity through volleyball.
Coaching Philosophy.
At Utah Mojo Volleyball, we believe great athletes aren't just born — they’re built through consistent effort, strong mentorship, and a love for the game. Our coaching philosophy is centered around developing the whole player — physically, mentally, and emotionally.
With more than 30 years of experience, Danette and Tulao Moea’i bring a deep well of volleyball knowledge, competitive insight, and coaching certifications (including Gold Medal Squared and CAP II) to every training environment. We teach the game the right way — with a focus on technique, movement, and decision-making — and tailor our approach to meet each athlete where they are. We do educate ourselves to be knowledgeable in the latest techniques, because volleyball is evolving daily. Coaches have to grow with the game in order to bring players to the level of today’s game.
We believe:
Fundamentals matter. Great athletes are built on a strong foundation.
Hard work beats hype. We teach athletes how to grind, how to grow, and how to lead.
Culture is everything. Respect, accountability, and team-first mentality are non-negotiable.
Coaching is mentorship. We’re here to coach skills, but also confidence and character.
Mojo players are taught to train with intent, compete with heart, and carry themselves with integrity. Whether they're new to the game or preparing for collegiate-level play, we prepare them to rise to the challenge — not just in volleyball, but in life.
